3 synchro gearbox cover broken by layshaft
I just noticed, when assembling my gearbox, that the front cover was broken by layshaft spin. I hope it is possible to repair by some TIG welding and machining, but I'm wondering what could be a cause...

Seems like it'd be easier to replace the cover (and find out why the layshaft spun). There are some front covers on eBay.

Unfortunately not in mu country. Also I didn't find the right one on european eBay (there are some for MGA for ~100EUR), this + postage would cost much more that repairing the old one. Also exchanging...

Happened prior to me getting the box. I think this one had braze bushes not needle rollers. it had happened some time ago and had been repaired and the cover just put back. I'm not sure of the history...

Not sure that a MGA front cover will work with MGB gearbox, I thinks there are differences in location with the clutch release bearing arm pivot point. Check with Barney Gaylord's "MGA Guru web site,...
